Noted author and documentary filmmaker, Sanjit Narwekar has been awarded the Dr. V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award at 17th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival of India (MIFF 2022).
The prestigious award includes cash prize of Rs. 10 lakhs, Golden Conch and a citation.
He has also received the Swarna Kamal at the National Film Awards for his book ‘Marathi Cinema in Retrospect.’

PM Narendra Modi will launch credit-linked portal 'Jan Samarth' for delivery of various schemes.
Aim: improve the ease of living for the common man.
Initially, the new portal will launch with the 15 credit-linked government initiatives.
State Bank of India and other lenders were doing the pilot testing and fix the loose ends before the official launch.
In 2018, the government had launched a portal http://psbloansin59minutes.com for various kinds of credit products.

National Affairs

The National Health Authority (NHA) has launched a public dashboard for near real-time information on the scheme under its flagship scheme of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
Dashboard displays: Detailed information on the core registries under the mission – Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) numbers, Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR) and Health Facility Registry (HFR).

LIC has launched new life insurance product named Bima Ratna, a non-linked, non-participating, individual savings life insurance product that combines protection and savings.
The plan offers monetary support for the family in case of the death of the policyholder during the policy term.
The sum assured on death is greater than 125% of the Basic Sum Assured or 7 times the annualised premium.
Guaranteed additions: Rs 50 per Rs 1000 basic payment from 1st to 5th year.

Science & Technology

Supercomputer, Param Ananta has been established at IIT Gandhinagar, under Phase II of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).
NSM is a joint initiative of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Department of Science and Technology (DST).
Its system is based on Direct Contact Liquid Cooling technology.
Under NSM, 15 supercomputers have been installed across the country with aggregate compute capacity of 24 petaflops.

Important Dates

World No Tobacco Day is observed on May 31 every year to raise awareness about the destruction caused by consuming tobacco.
The United Nations has adopted sustainable development agenda by 2030 with an aim to reduce tobacco-related deaths by one-third by that time.

In 1987, the WHO member countries agreed to observe World No-Tobacco Day on May 31.

Schemes

PM Narendra Modi has released the 11th instalment of Rs 21,000 crore of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi on May 31, during the Garib Kalyan Sammelan in Shimla.
He has interacted with beneficiaries of about 16 schemes run by 9 Central Ministries/Departments of the Government of India.
Garib Kalyan Sammelan is being organized in state capitals, district headquarters and Krishi Vigyan Kendras across the nation to celebrates the completion of 8 years of the union government.

National & International Organizations

The Forbes has released its 7th edition of 30 Under 30 Asia List 2022, the list includes several Indians from various fields.

The list has represented 22 countries across the Asia-Pacific region.
India has topped the list in terms of the number of entries with 61, followed by Singapore (34), Japan (33), Australia (32), Indonesia (30) and China (28).
The list includes 14-year old Japanese Olympics skateboarding gold-medalist Momiji Nishiya.

Radio Jockey, Umar Nisar (south Kashmir) has been awarded the 'O1 Best Content Award' and the Immunization Champion award by UNICEF at the annual Radio4Child 2022 Awards in Mumbai.
He received an award for his excellent work during the pandemic in building awareness and countering rumours to reach audiences.
The Radio4Child, is an initiative of Unicef India.
This programme felicitated radio professionals for their commendable work during the COVID19 pandemic.

Obituaries

Former president of Albania Bujar Nishani has passed away due to serious health problems.
He became an MP in 2005, later serving as interior minister.
He served as president from 2012 until 2017.
Nishani was elected as president in June 2012 at the age of 45, becomes the country’s youngest ever president.
He was born in the port city of Durres and graduated from the Skanderbeg Military University and later from the University of Tirana law faculty.

Karnataka CM, Basavaraj Bommai has launched new health and wellness app named AAYU.
Aim: Help to heal chronic diseases and lifestyle disorders through yoga and meditation.
Developed by: Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) in partnership with RESET TECH (an Al-driven integrated health-tech platform).
The app is available in multiple languages.
It also aims to reach and impact over five million chronic disease patients within a span of five years.

Schemes

The Government has approved the continuation of Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) till the financial year 2025-26 with the total outlay of Rs 13,554.42 crores.
Aim: to create sustainable employment opportunities for about 40 lakh persons in five years.
The extension of the scheme is over the 15th Finance Commission Cycle for five years.
The Govt increase in the maximum project cost from 25 lakh to 50 lakh (manufacturing units).
