1. Dr. Firdausi Qadri wins Ramon Magsaysay award 2021
- Bangladeshi vaccine scientist Dr. Firdausi Qadri along with other 4 were conferred with Ramon Magsaysay Award 2021.
- She is an emeritus at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh.
- Other winners are Muhammad Amjad Saqib (Microfinance pioneer, Pakistan), Roberto Ballon (Environmentalist), Steven Muncy (Social Activist) and Watchdoc (Indonesia) for journalism.
- Known as Nobel Prize in Asia, Ramon Magsaysay award was established in 1957.

2. Dr. PPK Ramacharyulu appointed as Secretary General of Rajya Sabha
- Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu appointed Dr. Parasaram Pattabhi Kesava Ramacharyulu as the new secretary general of Rajya Sabha.
- Ramacharyulu has been working as secretary in the RS Secretariat since 2018.
- He will succeed Desh Dipak Verma.
- He was awarded Ph.D Degree by the JNU for his work on ‘Committee Systems of Indian Parliament and the US Congress: A Comparative Study’ in 2005.
- He is the first ever Upper House employee to have risen to the secretary general’s post

3. JB Mohapatra appointed as the Chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes
- J B Mohapatra has been appointed the chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
- He is a 1985-batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) officer.
- He is currently a member in the board that frames the policy for the Income Tax department.
- He has been holding the additional charge of CBDT chairman since May31.

4. Google Pay launches digital FD in tie-up with Equitas Small Finance Bank
- Equitas Small Finance Bank (SFB) has launched a new initiative enabling Google Pay users to book fixed deposits (FDs).
- Initially, this functionality will be available for Google Pay users who are accessing the app from Android.
- The deposits in Equitas are covered by a deposit guarantee upto ₹5 lakh per depositor.
- On maturity, principal and interest of the FD go directly to the Google Pay user’s existing bank account.

5. Smriti Irani launches Poshan 2.0, urges districts to set up Poshan Vatikas
- Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani inaugurated Poshan 2.0, during the nutrition month starting from September 1 for the protection of Severe Actual Malnourished (SAM) children.
- She urged all aspirational districts of the country to make a commitment to establish a ‘Poshan Vatika’.
- POSHAN Abhiyan was launched in 2018 to combat malnutrition.
- POSHAN Abhiyaan had been launched for children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

- Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur inaugurated the first ever BRICS Film Technology Symposium.
- It is being jointly organized by FICCI, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and FTII.
- It is a step in this direction to bring the people from all member states together.
- The focus of the Symposium is to acknowledge the service sector.

7. Punjab Govt launches 'Innovation Mission Punjab' to boost start-up sector
- CM Amarinder Singh launched 'Innovation Mission Punjab.
- It is a public-private partnership that brings in global investors and experts to catalyze start ups.
- The Mission will mobilise a global pool of ambassadors and partners for investment, mentorship and market access.
- Besides, the Innovation Mission Punjab will act as a catalyst to strengthen by rallying all the stakeholders viz. academia, incubators, investors, startups, govt, farmers etc.

8. Indian Navy seals contract with BEL to procure naval anti-drone system
- The Indian Navy signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the supply of the first indigenously developed Naval Anti Drone System (NADS).
- The NADS, developed by the DRDO and manufactured by BEL.
- It is the first indigenously developed anti-drone system to be inducted into the Indian armed forces.
- The NADS can instantly detect micro drones and uses a laser-based "kill mechanism" to terminate the targets.

9. PM releases commemorative coin on 125th Birth Anniv. of Swami Prabhupada
- PM Modi releases a special commemorative coin of 125 rupees on the occasion of the 125th Birth Anniv of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
- He founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness commonly known as the “Hare Krishna movement”.
- ISKCON has translated Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta and other Vedic literature in 89 languages.
- Swami Ji also established over a hundred temples and wrote several books, teaching the path of Bhakti Yoga to the world.

10. BharatPe ties up with Axis Bank on point of sale devices
- BharatPe announced a strategic partnership with Axis Bank under which the bank will act as the acquiring bank for BharatPe’s point of sale (PoS) business BharatSwipe.
- This association will help BharatPe enhance the merchant experience by leveraging best-in-class technology platform offered by Axis Bank.
- BharatPe launched its PoS machine, BharatSwipe, last year as India’s first zero rental and zero merchant discount rate (MDR) PoS machine.

- Actor Sidharth Shukla (40) passed away due to a massive heart attack.
- Well known for being the winner of popular reality show Bigg Boss 13, Sidharth Shukla started his career with the show Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na.
- In 2014, Sidharth Shukla also made his Bollywood debut.
- He featured in Karan Johar-produced and Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt starrer, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.
- Recently, the actor made guest appearances on various reality shows including Bigg Boss OTT.

12. IIT Ropar introduces world's first 'plant-based' smart air purifier
- Scientists of the IIT Ropar and Kanpur and the Faculty of Management Studies of Delhi University have developed a living plant-based air purifier, 'Ubreathe Life'.
- It amplifies the air purification process in indoor spaces.
- These indoor spaces can either be hospitals, schools, offices or homes.
- It has been incubated at IIT Ropar, which is a designated iHub - AWaDH (Agriculture and Water Technology Development Hub) by the Department of Science and Technology.
