  • Senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, La. Ganesan (76 years) has been appointed as the 14th Governor of Manipur.
  • He is at present National Council Member of BJP and has earlier served the party in various capacities.
  • Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad was holding additional charge as Manipur’s Governor since the retirement of Najma Heptulla on 10 August.

2. India’s first smog tower inaugurated in Connaught Place, Delhi

  • Delhi’s Chief Minister has inaugurated India’s first smog tower in Connaught Place, Delhi
  • It will purify 1,000 cubic metres of air per second within a radius of 1 km.
  • It has been set up as a pilot project and if the pilot test is successful, more such smog towers will be set up in Delhi.
  • The tower has been built by Tata Projects Limited (TPL) with technical assistance from IIT Bombay in collaboration with IIT Delhi

3. Nakul Chopra appointed as Chief Executive Officer of BARC India

  • Nakul Chopra has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), India with effect from August 25, 2021
  • He will replace Sunil Lulla, who has resigned to pursue his ambition as an entrepreneur.
  • He joined BARC, India board in 2016 and was subsequently appointed its chairman in 2018

4. Govt launches new geospatial planning portal ‘Yuktdhara’

  • Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh has launched new geospatial planning portal titled as ‘Yuktdhara’, that will facilitate new MGNREGA assets using remote sensing and geographic information system-based data.
  • It will serve as a repository of assets and Geotags created under programmes like Mahatma MGNREGA, Integrated Watershed Management Programme, Per Drop More Crop and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana along with field photographs.

5. Karnataka officially implements National Education Policy 2020

14. India, ADB sign $500 million loan to expand Metro Rail Network in Bengaluru

  • Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Govt have signed $500 million loan to expand the metro rail network in Bengaluru with the construction of two new metro lines totaling 56 km in length.
  • It will construct two new metro lines, mostly elevated, along Outer Ring Road and National Highway 44 between Central Silk Board and Kempegowda International Airport with 30 stations.
  • It will help decongest traffic in the city area and provide seamless connectivity to the airport.
