1. Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari appointed as new IAF Vice Chief


  • Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari has been appointed as the new Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force.
  • He will succeed Air Marshal Harjit Singh Arora.
  • He is currently serving as commander-in-chief of the IAF's Western Air Command (WAC).
  • An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Air Marshal Chaudhari was commissioned into the fighter stream of the IAF on December 29, 1982.
  • Air Marshal Arora retired from service in June 2021.

2. Indian ranked 20th in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2021

  • India ranked 20th among the 100 countries in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2021 by Startup Blink.
  • The country was in the 17th spot in 2019 and slid six spots down in 2020 and stood at 23.
  • Like last year, the US, the UK, Israel, Canada, and Germany are in the top five spots.
  • The report has a score for each location, which is calculated as the sum of three parameters — quantity, quality, and business environment.
  • India started StartUp India in January  2016.

3. Axis Bank signs multi-year digital agreement with AWS

  • Axis Bank has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate its digital transformation program.
  • Axis bank and AWS signed a multi-year agreement, under which the bank will use AWS to build a portfolio of new digital financial services and modernize core banking applications.
  • Axis Bank has deployed over 25 mission-critical applications on AWS.

5. Reliance inks pact with ADNOC to build mega chemical project in Abu Dhabi

  • RIL and UAE's oil giant Abu Dhabi National Oil Company signed an agreement to form a mega petrochemical joint venture in Al Ruwais city. 
  • This will be the first investment by Reliance in UAE.
  • RIL and ADNOC will construct an integrated plant with a capacity to produce chlor-alkali, ethylene dichloride, and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
  • The partnership utilizes the increasing demand for critical industrial raw materials and utilizes the strengths of ADNOC and RIL.

6. Singapore signs pact with Bhutan to establish technical training centres

  • Singapore has signed an MoU with Bhutan to establish Model Technical Training Centres (MTTC). 
  • The ITE-Education Services of Singapore will provide technical assistance to Bhutan’s Ministry of Labour and Human Resources in developing MTTC
  • MTTCs will offer high-quality practice-oriented skills training for Bhutanese youths.
  •  The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck visited the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Singapore, in 2015.

7. National Doctors’ Day is being celebrated today

  • National Doctors’ Day is celebrated every year on 1st July to acknowledge the role of doctors in keeping the nation healthy.
  • The government established Doctors’ Day in 1991 to recognize the contributions of former Bengal Chief Minister Dr BC Roy.
  • He played an important role in the establishment of the Medical Council of India and the Indian Medical Association.
  • He was also conferred with Bharat Ratna on 4th February 1961.

8. Abhimanyu Mishra becomes youngest Grandmaster in Chess

  • In Chess, Abhimanyu Mishra becomes the youngest chess Grandmaster.
  • He breaks the record of 12 years and seven months set by Sergey Karjakin in 2002.
  • Abhimanyu reached the milestone in 12 years, four months, and 25 days.
  • He scored his third GM norm in Budapest, having already crossed the required 2500 ELO rating barrier.
  • He defeated 15-year-old Indian GM Leon Luke Mendonca.

  • Goods and Services Tax is observed every year on 1st July to mark the roll-out of the historic tax reform.
  • The date of July 1 has been designated by govt as 'GST Day' in 2017.
  • This year is the 4th anniversary of GST Day. 
  • The GST is an indirect, multi-stage, comprehensive tax in India, imposed on the supply of goods and services.
  • On roll-out, GST subsumed almost all the other domestic indirect taxes.

10. Sampath Kumar, editor of India's only Sanskrit daily passes away

  • K V Sampath Kumar, the editor of India’s only Sanskrit daily Sudharma for the past 31 years, passed away.
  • Sudharma was founded by his father Kalale Nadadur Varadaraja Iyengar, a renowned Sanskrit scholar from Mysuru.
  • After his death in 1990, Sampath Kumar and his wife Vidushi Jayalakshmi KS took over.
  • He, along with his wife, was selected for the Padma Shri honor from the Government of India in 2020 for his contribution to the field of Literature & Education.

11. Renowned personality Raj Kaushal passed away

  • Filmmaker Raj Kaushal passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest.
  • He is survived by his wife Mandira Bedi and children Veer and Tara.
  • He directed movies like “Shaadi Ka Laddoo” and “Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi”.
  • Apart from direction, Kaushal had also produced filmmaker Onir’s 2005 acclaimed drama “My Brother… Nikhil”, starring Sanjay Suri and Juhi Chawla. 
  • His last directorial was the 2006 thriller, “Anthony Kaun Hai?.
