Why in News:

18th Illustration of MyGov State - MyGov Gujarat was launched.

key points:

This citizen-centric platform has been launched with 4 major objectives, which include-
1. Discussion forum to share rainwater harvesting and water-saving methods.
2. Forum for discussion on Ease of Living through e-Governance.
3. Voting on cleanliness campaign
4. Blog on Digital Seva Setu.
MyGov, the world's largest platform to connect citizens with each other, was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 26 July 2014 with the idea of connecting the government with the common man.
MyGov is also available on almost all social media platforms popular among Indian youth, especially those living in remote areas of the country, with the aim of taking citizens' ideas and suggestions to the government.

Hariyali Mahotsav

Why in News:

Under the spirit of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, “Hariyali Mahotsav” will be organized on July 8, 2022, at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi.

key points:

Hariyali Mahotsav- “Tree Mahotsav” is being organized with an aim to raise awareness about the importance of trees in not only sustaining the lives of the present generation but also securing the future of the generations to come.
Hariyali Mahotsav 2022 will be organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change in collaboration with the state governments, police institutions, and schools of Delhi to conduct a tree plantation campaign on this occasion.
As part of the festival, a ceremonial tree plantation drive will be organized at 75 degraded plantation sites across the country with the participation of 75 city forests, 75 police stations and 75 schools in Delhi/NCR and in different states.

Why in News:

Nearly 100 students in East Sikkim have contracted skin infections after coming in contact with Nairobi flies.

key points:

Nairobi flies are an insect species endemic to East Africa, also known as Kenyan flies or dragon bugs.
Two species are included in Nairobi flies-
1. Pedrus Eximius.
2. Pederus Sabius.
Nairobi flies are orange and black in color thrive in areas of high rainfall and, like most insects, are attracted to bright light.
Nairobi Several outbreaks of flies outside Africa in the past in countries such as India, Japan, and Paraguay.

Dalai Lama

Why in News:

The Dalai Lama was greeted by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, on his 87th birthday.

key points:

The Dalai Lama belongs to the Gelugpa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, the largest and most influential tradition in Tibet.
There has been a total of 14 Dalai Lamas in the history of Tibetan Buddhism, and the first and second Dalai Lamas were given this title posthumously.
The 14th and current Dalai Lama is Tenzin Gyatso.
Bodhisattvas are beings motivated by the desire to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings.
The Dalai Lama emigrated to India from Tibet with thousands of followers during the 1959 Tibetan uprising, where he was welcomed by the former Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and allowed him to form a Tibetan government in exile in Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh)

Shyama Prasad Mookerjee's birth anniversary was celebrated on 6th July and the Prime Minister of India paid tribute to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee on his birth anniversary.

Syama Prasad Mookerjee was born on July 6, 1901, in Calcutta.
Shyama Prasad Mookerjee was the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and was appointed as the President of 'Hindu Mahasabha' in the year 1944.
In the year 1921, Dr. Mukherjee graduated in English from Calcutta and after graduating, in the year 1923, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee obtained a master's degree in Bengali language and literature from Calcutta itself.
In the year 1951, 'Bharatiya Jana Sangh' was established in Delhi by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee.
Shyama Prasad Mookerjee was vocal for the abolition of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and gave the slogan of Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhana, Ek Pradhan for this.

Why in News:

Junior Ferdinand Marcos was sworn in as the 17th President of the Philippines in Manila.

key points:

Junior Ferdinand Marcos succeeded President Rodrigo Duterte and Rodrigo Duterte's daughter Sarah Duterte was sworn in as the Vice President.
The 64-year-old Marcos will have to face challenges like pandemics, high inflation, and a rising debt burden in the country.
According to the Constitution of the Philippines, the term of the President is six years.
India increased its partnership with ASEAN with the introduction of the Look East Policy in 1992, which in turn accelerated bilateral and regional relations with the Philippines.
India-Philippines relations have seen greater diversity under the Act East Policy and currently India has a positive trade balance with the Philippines.
