  • Make in India seeks to develop India's existing industrial base and draw in foreign investment for new industrialization in order to surpass China.
  • The government has set a goal to boost the manufacturing sector growth to 12–14% per year in the medium term as part of the Make in India drive.
  • FDI inflows into India hit a record-high level for eight straight years in 2014–2015, when they totaled US$ 45.15 billion.
  • The year 2021–2022, with its USD 83.6 billion total, saw the largest level of FDI ever.
  • In comparison to the same period in 2013, toy imports fell by 70% (or Rs 877.8 crore) in the fiscal year 2021–2022, while India's toy exports had a phenomenal boom of 636%.

Amit Shah to Inaugurate Dairy Cooperative Conclave in Gangtok

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate a day-long Dairy Cooperative Conference of Eastern and Northeastern Regions in Sikkim on 7 October.

key points:

  • The conference is being organized by the National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India (NCDFI).
  • The conference will be attended by top functionaries of cooperative milk unions and state dairy unions from the eastern and northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal.
  • An online marketplace named “NCDFI eMarket” has been launched by NCDFI with the patronage of National Dairy Development Board to provide transparent and fair dealing for trading of bulk commodities to the member dairy cooperatives.
  • The turnover in NCDFIs reached Rs 6,305 crore in the year 2021-22 from Rs 1,006 in the year 2015-16, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 30 percent.

Government of India introduced "Sign Learn" smartphone app

  • The Government of India has launched "Sign Learn" smartphone app, which is a 10,000-word dictionary for Indian Sign Language (ISL).

key points:

  • Sign Learn App has been introduced by Pratima Bhowmik, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment.
  • The 10,000-word Indian Sign Language Research and Training Center (ISLRTC) lexicon serves as the foundation for sign learn.
  • All words in ISL Dictionary can be searched using Hindi or English on the app, which is available in Android and iOS versions.
  • Earlier on October 6, 2020, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by ISLRTC and NCERT to convert NCERT textbooks for classes 1 to 12 into Indian Sign Language (Digital Format), so that children listening to the textbooks to be made accessible to.
  • ISL translations were released by the Center as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in some volumes of the National Book Trust's "Veergatha" series.
  • ISLRTC and NCERT collaborated to launch 500 academic words in Indian Sign Language for "Sign Learn" smartphone app.
  • These academic terms, often used in history, science, political science, and mathematics, are used at the secondary school level.

  • Asha Parekh started her career as a child artist and was cast in Maa (1952) by filmmaker Bimal Roy, when she was 10 years old.
  • The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest honor of Indian cinema.
  • The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was instituted in the year 1969, the award is the highest honor for an artist in Indian cinema.
  • Earlier this award has also been presented to Raj Kapoor, Yash Chopra, Lata Mangeshkar, Mrinal Sen, Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna.
  • Devika Rani was the first winner to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, while actor Rajinikanth has been honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the year 2021.
