National e-Vidhan Application (NEVA) System

  • A delegation of MLAs from Gujarat visited the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly to learn about the e-Vidhan system for paperless proceedings, which has been recently adopted by the UP State Legislative Assembly.

key points:

  • National e-Vidhan Application (NEVA) is a system to digitize Legislative Bodies of all Indian States and Parliament through a single platform on which proceedings of the House, Starred/Unstarred Questions and Answers, Committee Reports, etc.
  • The National e-Vidhan Application System has been developed to make all work and data related to legislative bodies online, including a website and a mobile app, available for use by both citizens and members of the Legislative Assembly.
  • In December 2021, the Dubai government became the first government in the world to go 100 percent paperless, announcing that all processes have been completely digitized.

Major economic forum meeting on climate and energy

  • India has been represented by the Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Mr. Bhupendra Yadav at the virtual meeting of the Major Economy Forum (MEF) on Energy and Climate organized by US President Joseph Biden.

  • The meeting of the Economy Forum aims to strengthen energy security and accelerate the actions taken to combat the climate crisis, with the help of which COP-27 can be accelerated.
  • The UN Secretary-General, including 23 of the world's major economies, participated in this year's meeting of the Major Economy Forum on Climate and Energy.
  • The meeting of the premier economic forum on climate and energy organized by India this year called on member countries to launch a global movement on life outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at COP-26 in Glasgow.

Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor Project

  • The main tunnel and five underpasses of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor project were inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.

  • The Integrated Transit Corridor project is an integral part of the Pragati Maidan redevelopment project.
  • The main objective of this project is to provide seamless access to the new world-class Exhibition and Convention Center being developed at Pragati Maidan, thereby ensuring the smooth participation of spectators and visitors in the events at Pragati Maidan.
  • The key feature of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor project is to incorporate the latest global standard features of smooth movement of traffic like smart fire management, modern ventilation, automatic drainage, digitally controlled CCTV, and a public announcement system inside the tunnel.

Use of ICT in school education in India

  • The Department of School Education, Union Ministry of Education has received UNESCO's recognition for using ICTs under a comprehensive initiative called PM eVIDYA, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • PM e-Vidya was launched on May 7, 2020, by the Ministry of Education as part of the Self-Reliant India Campaign.
  • PM e-VIDYA aims to integrate all efforts related to digital/online/on-air education to provide education using technology to children and enable multi-mode access to reduce learning loss.
  • The Central Institute of Educational Technology, a constituent unit of the National Council of Educational Research and Training under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, received UNESCO's King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa Award for its use for the year 2021 ICT in Education has been awarded.

'Jail Filling Station' scheme

Why in News:

  • The Haryana government has planned to set up fuel stations in the outer campuses of 11 jails of Haryana on the lines of the fuel stations set up by the Telangana government.

key points:

  • These jail filling stations will be set up by the state of Haryana in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation Limited and at present, a petrol pump has been set up at Kurukshetra Jail as a pilot project by the government.
  • After Kurukshetra, similar fuel stations will be operated from the jails of Ambala, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Jhajjar, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Bhiwani, Jind, and Hisar.
  • Prisoners convicted of good conduct who have spent a considerable amount of time in prisons in proportion to their prison term will be allowed to work at these fuel stations, and prisoners working at petrol pumps will be paid wages as per prison manuals. will be provided.
  • The main objective of the 'Jail Filling Station' scheme is to make prisoners a part of society.

Inauguration of Historic Torch Relay for 44th Chess Olympiad at Indira Gandhi Stadium

Why in News:

  • The historic torch relay for the 44th Chess Olympiad was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi.

key points:

  • This year, for the first time, the Chess Olympiad torch has been launched by the International Chess Federation-FIDE in line with the Olympic tradition.
  • Presented by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand during the conference, the torch will be carried over 40 days to 75 cities where the torch will be handed over to the Chess Grandmaster of the respective state at each location.
  • The final destination of this torch is Mahabalipuram near Chennai and this year the 44th Chess Olympiad will be held in Chennai from July 28 to August 10.

  • On 4 December 2000, a resolution was passed by the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) to observe 20 June as World Refugee Day and for the first time, World Refugee Day was observed on 20 June 2001.
  • World Refugee Day is celebrated as an opportunity to promote empathy and compassion for the suffering of refugees, as well as to honor their courage in rebuilding their lives.
  • According to the convention organized by the United Nations in 1951, a refugee is one who has fled his home and country because of a deep fear of persecution because of his ethnicity, religion, nationality, membership in a specific social group, or political opinion.
  • The theme of this year's World Refugee Day is 'The Right to Seek Security'.
