SETU program launched in America by Piyush Goyal

  • A program named SETU (Supporting Entrepreneurs in Transformation and Upskilling) has been introduced by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to link Indian business owners with investors residing in the US.

Key Points:

  • Mentors in the US who are willing to assist entrepreneurship can connect with Indian businesses with the aid of SETU.
  • During a focused discussion on certain issues with India's startup ecosystem, the SETU project was made public.
  • The SETU project would connect businesses in India with US investors and key figures in the startup ecosystem through mentorship and help in a variety of areas, including fundraising, market access, and commercialization.
  • Through a mentoring website developed by the MAARG (Mentorship, Advisory, Assistance, Resilience, and Growth) program of the Startup India initiative, an all-in-one resource for Indian entrepreneurs has been attempted as part of the SETU project.
  • Lack of business management expertise is a major issue, and entrepreneurs need the correct guidance for making decisions as well as moral support. The SETU project will fill this need.

Tokyo hosted India and Japan 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue

  • On September 8, 2022, Tokyo hosted the 2nd India-Japan 2+2 Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting.

Key Points:

  • Rajnath Singh, the defence minister of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar, Mr. Hayashi Yoshimasa, the foreign minister of Japan, and Mr. Hamada Yasukazu, the defence minister of Japan.
  • The meeting reaffirmed the participating members' commitment to a rules-based international order that respects the sovereign and territorial integrity of states and that all states are subject to international law without resorting to coercion, the use of force, or any other attempt to subvert it. It also emphasized the necessity of peaceful dispute resolution.
  • The participants in the summit also reiterated their unequivocal and unwavering support for ASEAN's unity and centrality.
  • The "2+2 Dialogue Model" refers to ministerial meetings that are scheduled simultaneously between two nations.
  • Under this discussion format, negotiations have been held between India and Japan, the US, and Australia.
  • The Special Strategic and Global Partnership were strengthened during the 13th summit of talks between Prime Minister Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2018, which was planned with the goal of enhancing bilateral security and military cooperation. It was resolved to begin new 2+2 ministerial negotiations.

Project 17A 'Taragiri' third stealth frigate launched

  • The third Project 17A stealth frigate for the Indian Navy, named "Taragiri," was unveiled in Mumbai by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL).

Key Points:

  • An integrated construction process is used to build the ship, which entails hull block construction in multiple sites as well as integration and construction at slipways at MDL.
  • The frigate was created by the Indian Navy's internal design team, the Bureau of Naval Design.
  • The government approved the renowned "Project 17A" in 2015, which calls for the construction of seven stealth frigates at a projected cost of Rs 50,000 crore.
  • Of these seven, the contract for three of the warships was given to GRSE, and the contract for the other four warships was given to the Mumbai-based state-owned Mazagon Docks Limited (MDL).
  • These warships will have top-notch stealth capabilities in addition to having cutting-edge, modern sensors.
  • These include a large main cannon for aiming at ships and coastal targets, torpedoes, and rockets to kill submarines, rapid-fire weapons to take out anti-ship missiles, and rapid-fire guns.

Agnikul Cosmos wins the first patent for a 3D-printed rocket engine

  • One of India's private space businesses, Agnikul Cosmos, has been granted its first patent for the creation of its 3D-printed rocket engine.

Key Points:

  • The business has received a patent for its Agnilet rocket engine, which will propel the Agnibat rocket when it launches later this year.
  • One such single-piece engine is the Agnilet, which was entirely developed and produced in India. It is the world's first single-piece 3D-printed rocket engine.
  • A successful test of Agnilet took place in early 2021.
  • The Agnilet was created to include each of these in a single piece of hardware that requires no assembly.
  • At IAC 2021 in Dubai, the most esteemed conference on space technology, Agnikul showcased this engine.
  • The Indian Space Research Organization, India's primary space agency, is also responsible for some of the country's 2% market share in terms of commercial space operations (ISRO).
  • Srinath Ravichandran, Moin SPM, and SR Chakraborty established Agnikul in 2017. (Professor of IIT-Madras).
  • Agnikul and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) signed a contract in December 2020 as part of the IN-SPACe program in exchange for the space agency's knowledge and access to its facilities to produce rocket engines.

Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari appointed as Chairman of the PMLA Appellate Tribunal

  • Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari has been appointed as the Chairman of the Appellate Tribunal under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by the Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Center (PMLA).

Key Points:

  • The Ministry of Finance's Department of Revenue has issued this directive.
  • Through the Finance Act of 2016, the PMLA Appellate Tribunal and the Tribunal for Forfeiture of Property under SAFEMA were combined.
  • Previously, in July 2007, Justice Bhandari was chosen to serve as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court.
  • Justice Bhandari was named the acting chief justice of the Allahabad High Court in June 2019 after being transferred to that court in March 2019.
  • Justice Bhandari was moved from Allahabad to the Madras High Court when the Supreme Court Collegium suggested that Sanjeev Banerjee, the then-chief justice of the Madras High Court, be appointed as the chief justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
  • Later, Justice Bhandari assumed the role of Acting Chief Justice, and in February of this year, he was appointed to the position of Chief Justice of the High Court.

World first aid day 2022

  • This year, the World First Aid Day event will be coordinated by the Global First Aid Reference Center, which will also provide necessary resources to national committees.
  • The history of World First Aid Day dates back to the Battle of Solferino in 1859, in which a young Geneva businessman, Henri Dunant, was horrified and stunned by the massacre of people.
  • This incident inspired Henry Dunant so much that he wrote a book titled 'A Memory of Solferino, in which, he recounted his experiences and eventually formed the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as a co-founder, so as to provide immediate primary care to prevent loss of life due to lack of first aid education.
  • In the year 2000, the second Saturday of September was officially declared as World First Aid Day by the IFRC.
