Twelfth WTO Ministerial Conference

Why in News:

The Twelfth WTO Ministerial Conference has been started on 12 June 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland after a gap of five years.

key points:

The Indian delegation to the WTO Ministerial Conference was led by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
Key areas of discussion and dialogue at this year's conference include issues such as agriculture, including the WTO's pandemic response, fisheries subsidy negotiations, and public stockholding for food security.
With regard to intellectual property, India has favored (i) identification of difficulties faced by developing countries and LDCs who are using TRIPS flexibility to address the COVID-19 pandemic, and (ii) TRIPS waiver decision The responses under the Announcement have been re-confirmed.
India is a founding member of the World Trade Organization since 1 January 1995 and a member of the GATT since 8 July 1948.

Child Labor Eradication Week

Why in News:

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has organized Child Labor Elimination Week at 75 places from 12 to 20 June as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate World Prohibition of Child Labor Day.

key points:

Under Child Labor Elimination Week, rescue operations will be conducted at 75 places across the country where children are involved in labor work.
The objective of the Child Labor Elimination Week is to give importance to the task of addressing the problem of child labor in different districts and finding ways to eliminate it.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has been constituted by the Government of India as a statutory body under Section 3 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005, which deals with the protection of child rights.
The Child Labor Elimination Week aims to simplify the understanding of the procedure laid down for the investigation and rehabilitation of children victims of child labor cases.

National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment- 2021

Why in News:

The second edition of the National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment- 2021 is released by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.

key points:

The NESDA 2021 report has been prepared covering the assessment of States/UTs with an aim to focus on the effectiveness of Central Ministries in delivering online services to citizens.
The objective of the National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment- 2021 is to give suggestions to the governments to further improve their e-governance service delivery system.
The National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment-2021 covers seven sectors of services - finance, labor and employment, education, local governance and utility services, social welfare, environment, and tourism.
This year's assessment includes 56 essential services for each state and union territory and 27 services for key central ministries, eight state/UT level services, and four central ministry services. -Government is involved in service delivery evaluation.

25th meeting of the Western Zonal Council

Why in News:

The 25th meeting of the Western Zonal Council was presided over by the Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah in Diu.

key points:

For the first time, the Western Zonal Council meeting has been held in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman, and Diu.
Six nationally important themes have been identified in the 25th meeting of the Western Regional Council, which include improving banking services in rural areas, and monitoring cases of rape and sexual offenses against women and children. Includes implementation of fast-track courts, verification of identities of marine fishermen at sea, development of local contingency plans by coastal states for large-scale rescue operations at sea, and promotion of Make in India through preference in public procurement Is.

Spreading literacy among children through games, puzzles, and comics

Why in News:

Income Tax Department aims to spread tax literacy among children through "games, puzzles, and comics".

key points:

The new product introduces concepts related to taxation, often considered complex, to high school students through games, puzzles, and comics.
A range of communication and public outreach products aimed at spreading financial and tax awareness have also been launched by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the closing ceremony of the prestigious week of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in Panaji, Goa during the event.
Among the new products introduced by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) under Games, Puzzles, and Comics-
- Snakes, Ladders, and Taxes
- construction of India
- India Gate - 3D Puzzle
- Digital comic books included.
These products, presented under Games, Puzzles, and Comics, will initially be distributed to schools through a network of Income Tax offices spread across the country.

National Customs and GST Museum in Goa - 'Heritage'

Why in News:

The Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman dedicated the National Customs and GST Museum, Dharohar to the nation in Panaji, Goa.

key points:

The two-storey 'Blue Building', formerly known as Alfandega during the period of Portuguese rule in Goa, has stood on the banks of the Mandovi River in Panaji for over 400 years.
Virasat is of its kind museum in the country which not only displays the artifacts confiscated by the Indian Customs but also showcases various aspects of the work done by the Customs Department.
The 'Heritage' consists of eight galleries: Introductory Gallery, Taxation History Gallery, Our Economic Frontier Patron Gallery, Guardians of Our Art and Heritage, Guardians of Flora and Fauna, Guardians of Our Social Welfare, Travel of Indirect Taxes – Salt Tax GST and GST gallery, while the GST Gallery is a new addition gallery to the Heritage Museum.
This is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country which has gone through the long and arduous journey of GST in two decades.

Environmental performance index

Why in News:

The Environmental Performance Index for the year 2022 was jointly released by Yale and Columbia Universities.

key points:

This year, India is ranked 180th on the Environmental Performance Index with a score of 18.9, which comes after Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Myanmar.
This year Denmark has topped the Environmental Performance Index with a score of 77.9, while the United Kingdom and Finland are ranked second and third respectively.
The Environmental Performance Index is an international ranking system of countries based on their environmental health.
It is a biennial index, first introduced as the Environmental Sustainability Index in 2002 by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy and the Columbia University Center for International Earth Information Network.
This year's Environmental Performance Index uses 40 performance indicators to assess and rank 180 countries that fall under the broad categories of climate change performance, environmental health and ecosystem vitality.

Youth Weightlifting World Championship

India's Akanksha Vihavare won the silver medal in the Youth Weightlifting World Championships.
Akanksha has won this medal in the Women's 40kg category at the Youth Weightlifting World Championships held in Mexico by lifting a total of 127kg.
In the snatch, Akanksha secured the first position with a lift of 59 kg, while in clean and jerk, Akanksha secured the third position with a lift of 68 kg.
In the Youth Weightlifting World Championship, Vijay Prajapati (men's 49 kg weight category) has also won the silver medal in this championship.
Akanksha is a trainee of the National Center of Excellence (NCE, Aurangabad) of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Vijay is in the Patiala unit of The National Center of Excellence of Sports Authority of India (SAI).
