National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI)

  • The National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI) was inaugurated in New Delhi by the Minister of Home and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

key points:

  • The National Tribal Research Institute will oversee the projects of research scholars from Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs), Centers of Excellence (CoEs), and NFS, as well as set benchmarks for improving the quality of research and training.
  • More than 100 tribal artisans and tribal dance artists from across the country will also showcase their indigenous products and arts during the event.
  • NTRI will be a premier national-level institution to bring tribal concerns, issues, and affairs to the main focus in the academic, executive, and legislative spheres.
  • NTRI aims to provide collaboration and network with reputed research institutes, universities, organizations as well as academic bodies and resource centers.

Setal Shashthi Festival

  • Sital Shashthi Mahotsav, the holy festival of Hindus, has been organized in Odisha.

key points:

  • The seven-day-long Sital Shashthi festival is celebrated every year to commemorate the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
  • According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Sital Shashti is organized on the sixth day of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month.
  • According to beliefs, Lord Shiva is the embodiment of scorching heat and Goddess Parvati is the symbol of the first rain, so this festival is celebrated every year in anticipation of a grand marriage of Shiva-Parvati and a good monsoon.

Maharashtra ranks first in the medal tally of Khelo India Youth Games 2021

  • In the medal tally of Khelo India Youth Games-2021, Maharashtra is at the first position with nine gold medals.

key points:

  • The host state of Haryana finished second in the Khelo India Youth Games-2021 by winning six gold medals.
  • On the other hand, Manipur state finished third in the medal tally with six medals including four gold.
  • Manipur has won four gold medals in the Thang-Ta competition, Thang-Ta is a local sport of Manipur state which was included in Khelo India for the first time.
  • In this grand event, 25 types of sports including five traditional games namely Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Thang-Ta, Malkhamb, and Yogasan were organized in which more than 8,000 athletes participated.
  • Khelo India is a part of an important initiative of the Government of India to promote sports at the grassroots level and identify young talent from across the country.

  • With this win, 36-year-old Nadal is the oldest player to compete at Roland Garros.
  • Rafael Nadal has won the 22nd Grand Slam title this year.
  • In women's singles, world number one tennis player Inga Swietake defeated American teenager Coco Gauff to win this year's title in Paris.
  • The 21-year-old Polish player won his second Grand Slam title in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 on Gauff.

FIH Hockey 5-S Championship

  • India has won the title of FIH Hockey 5-S Championship organized for the first time.

key points:

  • India won the title by defeating Poland 6-4 in the final held in Lausanne, Switzerland.
  • The Indian team has not lost a single match in the tournament, in this five-team tournament, India finished first with 10 points after league matches, with the Indian team winning three matches and a draw.
  • Hockey 5-s is a newer and smaller form of hockey that is played with high speed and high skill, with a duration of 20 minutes and five players on each team.
  • The hockey 5-s match was first played at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in 2014.

State of India's Environment Report 2022

Why in News:

  • According to the 2022 environmental report by environmental NGO, Center for Science, three out of every four river monitoring stations in India have posted dangerous levels of heavy toxic metals such as lead, iron, nickel, cadmium, arsenic, chromium, and copper.

Key Point:

  • The report is an annual collection of eco-development data sourced from public sources.
  • According to the report, out of 588 water quality stations monitored for pollution, 239 and 88 stations in 21 states had a high demand for total coliform and biochemical oxygen.
  • According to the report, India dumps 72% of its sewage like this without treatment. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, ten states in India do not treat their sewage.
  • More than a third of India's coastline, which covers 6,907 km, has seen some degree of erosion between 1990 and 2018, with West Bengal being the worst affected state, with more than 60% of its coastline cut.
  • Causes of coastal erosion include increased frequency of cyclones and sea-level rise and activities such as the construction of ports, beach mining, and construction of dams.

Multinational Peace Exercise-X Khan Quest-2022

  • Multinational peace exercise - X Khan Quest-2022 has been started in Mongolia with troops from 16 countries including India.

key points:

  • The exercise has been inaugurated by Mongolian President Ukhnagin Khuralsukh.
  • From the Indian side, a team of Ladakh Scouts of the Indian Army will participate in the multinational peace exercise - Ex Khan Quest-2022.
  • The 14-day multinational peace exercise - Ax Khan Quest-2022 aims to promote interoperability among the participating countries, build ties between forces, conduct peacekeeping, and develop military preparedness.
  • The aim of the multinational peace exercise - Ex Khan Quest-2022 is to increase the level of defense cooperation among the participating countries in the exercise.

Ex SAMPRITI-X

  • As part of India-Bangladesh bilateral defense cooperation, formerly SAMPRITI-X, a joint military training exercise conducted at Jashore Military Station, Bangladesh, has been conducted from 05 June to 16 June 2022.

key points:

  • The Indian contingent in the Ex SAMPRITI-X exercise will be represented by a battalion of the Dogra Regiment
  • The exercise is an important bilateral defense cooperation effort undertaken by the two countries in turn with an aim to strengthen and broaden the aspects of interoperability and cooperation between the armies of the two countries.
  • During the joint military exercise Ex SAMPRITI-X, the armies of both the countries will share expertise in a range of scenarios such as terrorism, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief under the mandate of the United Nations.
