1. Satya Nadella gets CK Prahalad Award for Business Sustainability Leadership
- Satya Nadella (CEO Microsoft), along with three other top leaders of Microsoft awarded the prestigious 2021 C K Prahlad award for Global Business Sustainability Leadership.
- Three other Microsoft leaders are Brad Smith (President), Amy Hood (CFO) and Lucas Joppa.
- They were awarded for their collaborative leadership aimed at transforming Microsoft into a carbon negative company by 2030.
- The award was created in 2010 by the Corporate Eco Forum (CEF).

2. World Food Day 2021: 16th October
- World Food Day is celebrated all over the world on October 16.
- It is an initiative by the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations.
- This year, the World Food Day commemorations was jointly led by the FAO, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the World Food Programme (WFP).
- The theme this year is “Our actions are our future. Better production, better nutrition, better environment and a better life”.

- A K Goel, (MD & CEO) of UCO Bank has been elected as new chairman of Indian Bank's Association for 2021-22.
- He succeeds Rajkiran Rai G, MD & CEO, Union Bank of India.
- In September 2021, Banks Board Bureau (BBB) had recommended the name of Goel for the forthcoming position of managing director and chief executive at Punjab National Bank (PNB).
- Goel has been heading UCO Bank, Kolkata-based public sector lender, since Nov 2018.

- ‘Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Prerana Sthal’ was inaugurated at Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam.
- The NSTL is the premier naval research laboratory of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO).
- Dr Kalam’s Prerana Sthal will motivate the people particularly young minds from Dr Kalam’s life and his impeccable achievements.

6. NASA launches Lucy spacecraft, 1st space mission to study Trojans Asteroid
- NASA launched Lucy spacecraft, the first space mission to study the Trojans Asteroids.
- Lucy will journey for 12 years, observing one main belt asteroid and seven Trojan asteroids.
- The swarms of Trojan asteroids associated with Jupiter are thought to be remnants of the primordial material that formed the outer planets.
- These primitive bodies hold vital clues to deciphering the history of the solar system.

7. India slips to 101st rank in Global Hunger Index 2021
- India has slipped to 101st position in the Global Hunger Index 2021 of 116 countries.
- 18 countries, including China, Brazil and Kuwait, shared the top rank with GHI score of less than five.
- India is behind its neighbours Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.
- GHI was prepared jointly by Irish aid agency Concern Worldwide and German organisation Welt Hunger Hilfe.
- The GHI score is calculated on 4 indicators -undernourishment; child wasting; child stunting and child mortality

- The BPCL has launched an automated fuelling technology -UFill- to ensure better customer experience at outlets.
- The tech obviates the need for looking at zero or final reading and such offline manual interventions.
- The new automated fuelling technology is secure, fast, and smart.
- The new U-Fill outlets have been launched in 65 cities and are likely to be launched soon across the country.
- The customers need not download any app to use the U-Fill technology.

- According to World's Best Employers rankings 2021 published by Forbes, RIL is among the top four Indian companies to work for.
- Mukesh Ambani-owned RIL was placed at the 52nd position in the overall ranking of 750 global corporates.
- Other Indian companies that made it to the top 100 rankings include ICICI Bank at 65, HDFC Bank at 77 and HCL Technologies at 90.
- The top place in the Forbes rankings was occupied by Samsung Electronics followed by IBM, Microsoft and Amazon

10. Indo-US joint training exercise ‘Ex Yudh Abhyas 21’ commences in Alaska
- The 17th edition of the Indo-US joint training exercise “Ex Yudh Abhyas 21” commenced at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in Alaska.
- The 14-day exercise includes activities on joint training in a counter-insurgency/counter-terrorism environment.
- The Ex YudhAbhyas is the largest running joint military training and defense cooperation endeavour b/w India and US.
- The earlier version of this exercise was held in India at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Bikaner.

- Pradeep Kumar Panja has been appointed as the Chairman of Karnataka Bank Ltd with effect from November 14, 2021, for a period of three years.
- His appointment has been approved by Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
- He will begin his role as the part-time non-executive Chairman.
- He will succeed P Jayarama Bhat, who will retire on November 13, 2021.

2. Navrang Saini gets additional charge as Chairperson of IBBI
- Navrang Saini has been appointed as the interim Chairperson of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), for a period of three months, or till the joining of a new incumbent to the post, or until further orders.
- He is a Whole Time Member of IBBI.
- Post of chairperson was lying vacant after M.S. Sahoo retired on September 30, after completing a five-year tenure
- IBBI is the regulator for overseeing insolvency proceedings and entities and was founded in 2016.

3. Chennai Super Kings wins 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) title
- Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the finals to win the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) title.
- This was the 14th edition of IPL which is an India-based Cricket league in 20-20 format.
- This was the 4th victory of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL, having previously won the tournament in 2010, 2011, and 2018.

- It was held in Paris, France in 1987.
- It was officially recognized by UN General Assembly in December 1992.

- Amitabh Chaudhry has been re-appointed as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Axis Bank for a period of three years.

- His second three-year term will begin from January 1, 2022.
- Prior to joining Axis Bank, he was the MD and CEO of HDFC Standard Life Insurance.

7. China- Russia holds naval drill Joint Sea 2021 in Sea of Japan
- China and Russia joint naval exercises titled as ‘Joint Sea 2021’ kicked off at Russia’s Peter the Great Gulf, in the Sea of Japan, on October 14, 2021.
- The exercise begins on October 14, 2021 and culminated on October 17, 2021.
- During the war game, combined force will practice shooting at targets designed to imitate enemy surface ships and hold air-defence drills.

8. India re-elected to UN Human Rights Council from 2022 to 2024
- India has been re-elected to United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for sixth term on October 14, 2021 with overwhelming majority.
- This new three year term of India will be effective from January 2022 to December 2024.
- India has received 184 votes of 193 votes cast in the election.
- The elections were held for a total of 18 seats and countries needed a minimum of 97 votes to get elected to the 47 UN member council.

9. Hubble finds evidence of persistent water vapour in Jupiter’s moon ‘Europa’
- Hubble Space Telescope Observatory of NASA has revealed the presence of persistent water vapour in ‘Europa’, the icy moon of Jupiter.
- However, presence of water vapour atmosphere is found only in one hemisphere.
- It will further explore whether Europa’s atmosphere could support life.
- It is based upon Hubble observations spanning from 1999 to 2015.
- Europa reflects more sunlight than Ganymede, keeping the surface 60 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than Ganymede.

- Sajjan Jindal has been elected as the Chairman of World Steel Association (WSA) for the year 2021-22.
- He is the Chairman and Managing Director of JSW Steel Ltd.
- He is the first representative from India to serve as Chairman of the WSA
- World Steel Association (Worldsteel) is the international trade body for the iron and steel industry and was founded in 1967

1. India wins 2021 SAFF Championship final title
- India clinched the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship for eighth time defeating Nepal 3-0 in Male, Maldives.
- Sunil Chhetri scored in the 49th minute of the match, which put him level with Lionel Messi on 80 international goals.
- This is the Indian football team's first title triumph under head coach Igor Stimac.
- Stimac also became the third foreign coach after Jiri Pesek (1993) and Stephen Constantine (2015) to clinch the title with the Indian team.

- Indian American scientist Dr Vivek Lall was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at Ritossa Family Summits in Dubai, UAE.
- General Atomics CE Dr Vivek Lall received a Lifetime Achievement Award in Dubai for his "outstanding vision, dedication and success.
- A Jakarta-born Indian origin scientist, Dr Lall is known for this extraordinary role in strengthening India-US Defence trade and brokered some "top deals" between the two countries.

4. India signed MoU with Russia to buy coking coal
- Ministry of Steel, GoI signed an MoU with Russian ministry of energy for collaboration in the mining and steel sectors, with special focus on coking coal.
- The move is part of India’s National Steel Policy 2017 under which the country is aiming to reach 300 million tonne steel production by 2030.
- The MoU has come at a time when India’s non-power industries are facing severe thermal coal shortage issues.
- Currently, India imports its coking coal largely from Australia.

- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has withdrawn all restrictions imposed on Hindu Cooperative Bank Limited, Pathankot.
- The Reserve Bank had issued directions stipulating certain restrictions on the bank in March 2019.
- The RBI has withdrawn the sanction under sub-section (2) of Section 35 A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

- The scheme would give much needed succour to people, especially the needy and underprivileged.
- Earlier this scheme was launched only for the residents of villages, but now it is being extended to the eligible residents of the cities within the 'Lal Lakir'.

- Union govt has renamed the Andaman and Nicobar Islands' 'Mount Harriet' as 'Mount Manipur'.
- This was done in honour of Manipur's Maharaja Kulchandra Dhwaj Singh and 22 other freedom fighters were imprisoned here.
- 'Mount Harriet National Park' renamed as 'Mount Manipur National Park’.
- Manipuri war hero Yuvraj Tikendrajit and General Thangal were publicly hanged at Fida in Imphal.
- After that Maharaja and 22 freedom fighters were sent (Kalapani) to Mount Harriet Island.

8. Russian Crew Lands on Earth After Filming First Movie in Space
- Russian actress Yulia Peresild and film director Klim Shipenko along with cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy of Roscosmos returned to Earth after spending 12 days on the International Space Station (ISS) shooting scenes for the movie 'The Challenge', first movie in orbit.
- They departed the ISS in their Soyuz MS-18 spacecraft.
- The filmmakers had blasted off from the Russia-leased Baikonur Cosmodrome in ex-Soviet Kazakhstan earlier this month.

9. Divya Deshmukh becomes India's 21st WGM
- Divya Deshmukh became India's 21st Woman Grand Master after achieving her 2nd International Master in Budapest, Hungary.
- She scored 5 points in the 9 rounds and ended up with a performance rating of 2452 to secure her final WGM norm.
- She also secured her 2nd IM-norm and is now a norm away from becoming an International Master.
- The Nagpur teenager had earned the first two WGM norms at the Velammal International women's round-robin tournament and the Aeroflot Open 2019.

10. China and Indonesia won Uber Cup and and Thomas Cup Respectively
- China beat defending champions Japan 3-1 in the Uber Cup final 2021.
- This is the 15th time China have won the competition.
- The match pivoted on the longest match in the Uber Cup history when Chen Qing Chan and Jia Yi Fan won their doubles match.
- Indonesia blanked defending champions China 3-0 to win the Thomas Cup title for the first time since 2002.
- It was Indonesia’s 14th overall triumph in the tournament’s history.

12. Govt has constituted a working group to roll out an overhauled PMFBY
- The union govt has constituted a working group to to roll out an overhauled Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) from kharif 2022.
- The group will have members from Centre, key crop-producing states and top executives of public sector insurance companies.
- It will suggest sustainable, financial and operational models.
- The premium to be paid by farmers is fixed at 1.5% of the sum insured for Rabi and 2% for Kharif crops, while it is 5% for cash crops under PMFBY.
