India is home to the world's largest solar power plant. The Bhadla Solar Power Plant project commenced in 2015 with an investment of 1.4 billion and is located in Bhadla, Jodhpur district, Rajasthan.

The temperature in Bhadla ranges from 46 to 48 degrees, and the region receives excellent solar radiation the whole year. Ten million solar panels in the plant have a generation capacity of 2245 megawatt. The Bhadla solar power plant project is a part of a 1,00,000 megawatt solar energy grand plan.

  • Huanghe Hydropower Hainan Solar Park, China

The Huanghe Hydropower Hainan Solar Park is located in China’s remote Qinghai province. The plant, which has an installed capacity of 2.2 GW, is the second-largest solar site in the world. The park was developed by Chinese state-owned utility Huanghe Hydropower Development for $2.31bn.

  • Shakti Sthala Solar Power Project, India 

The 2GW Shakti Sthala solar power project is located in Karnataka, India, and is the world's third-largest solar power plant. The Karnataka Solar Park Development Corporation Limited (KSPDCL) and the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) developed this project, and it spans more than 13,000 acres of land.

  • Benban Solar Park, Egypt

The Benban Solar Park in Egypt is located about 650km south of the city of Cairo in Benban. The park is the largest solar power plant in Africa and is owned by the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA). The Benban solar park has a total capacity of 1.65GW with an annual production of about 3.8 terawatt-hours. 

  • Tengger Desert Solar Park, China

The Tengger Desert Solar Park is located in Ningxia, China, and is the fifth-largest solar power plant in the world. The park covers 1200 km of the 36700 km Tengger desert and is owned by China National Grid and Zhongwei Power Supply Company. 

  • Sweihan PV Independent Power Project, UAE

The Sweihan PV Independent Power Project is located in Sweihan in Abu Dhabi and covers an area of 7.8km². The plant was developed by a joint venture of Marubeni Corporation, Solar, and the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority and has an installed capacity of 1,177MW.
