Convectional Rainfall Occurs in which Region?

By BYJU'S Exam Prep

Updated on: November 9th, 2023

Convectional rainfall occurs in Equatorial Regions. The equatorial region experiences convectional rain. The equatorial region is the region with high humidity. It is also a reason for the heavy rainfall. Convection rainfall happens when the sun’s energy heats the earth’s surface and causes water’s evaporation. When warm air rises and reaches the coolest layer of the atmosphere, then it condenses and forms cumulonimbus clouds.

Region having Convectional Rainfall

Convectional rainfall appears to be caused by warm air rising from the earth’s surface and water vapor condensing at a higher height. Here, the wind does not transport the clouds carrying the water vapour away. Therefore, rain falls in the exact location. This rainfall is expected in tropical regions (between the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer) and places like South East England during warm sunny spells.

Here is the basic information about convectional rainfall. It is the primary topic of physical geography.

  • Convectional rainfall occurs in the equatorial region.
  • When the sun heats, the ground and warm air rise.
  • When warm air reaches the coolest layer of the atmosphere; then it condenses and forms cumulonimbus clouds.
  • Heavy rainfall occurs with lightning and thunder.
  • The areas like Amazon forests etc. have received this type of rainfall.
