The Indian Council Act 1909 has a provision for appointing an Indian to the viceroy’s executive council. The British Parliament passed the Indian Councils Act of 1909, a package of reforms aimed at boosting Indian citizens’ involvement in politics. The 1861 and 1892 Indian Councils Acts were amended by this law.

Provisions of the Indian Councils Act 1909

John Morley created the Indian Councils Act of 1909, also known as the Morley-Minto Reforms. In order to increase the representation of Indians in government, the Indian Council Act of 1909’s main provision established the elective principle for membership in Indian local and imperial legislative councils.

  • The size of the legislative council was increased as a result of the Indian Councils Act.
