Common Admission Test or CAT is one the most popular MBA entrance tests conducted annually by the Indian Institute of Management for the management aspirants seeking admission into the coveted IIMs or the Top B-Schools.  The level of competition is high as nearly two lakh candidates appear for the exam every year and only a few thousand students make it to the college of their choice. CAT is an aptitude test comprising of three sections - Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Logical Reasoning. CAT exam is conducted online.

CAT 2022 Preparation Tips for Beginners

  • Know about the Syllabus: It is important that for CAT preparation we are updated about the syllabus. There are 3 sections in the CAT exam -QADI, VARC, and LR. For Quantitative Ability the syllabus is covered generally from class 10th,11th, and 12th books which have topics like Arithmetic, Profit and Loss, Time Speed and Distance, etc. For Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, reading is the key. Build your vocabulary as much as you can. The more you read the better you will be on the day of the exam with the RC passages. Read on diverse subjects, step out of your comfort zone. For the Logical Reasoning section, the focus is on evaluating the candidate’s ability to solve questions.

  • Have Focused Strategy: For CAT 2022 preparation, your strategy should be tailormade. As every individual will have their unique strategy based on their strengths and weaknesses. Pay attention to the time constraint. Prepare your strategy based on the topics from which the questions have been asked.
  • Practice: Practice as much as you can. Attempt Mock tests. They will provide you with a real environment of the examination questions. Be true to yourself and see how you are faring in the mock exams. Work hard on the topics on which your scores are not good. Analyze your performance in the mock tests.
  • Speed and Accuracy: As CAT is all about accuracy, be sure of the answers that you mark. As CAT has a sectional limit of 40 minutes (CAT 2021), make sure you maintain the speed also while answering the questions. Leave the questions that you find difficult. Be selective in answering the questions. Vedic math and learning tables, squares are going to help you in speed building for the exam.
