The aspirants who have not started their preparation yet need not worry as its never too late. With proper planning and strategy aspirants can ace the CAT 2023 exam with good scores. Understand CAT Paper Pattern

The first step to start the preparation should be to understand the CAT exam pattern. Check below the CAT 2022 exam pattern.

Note: The candidates must be aware that there is also negative marking. For every wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted and for every correct answer, 3 marks will be awarded.

Section-wise CAT Syllabus 

The second step requires to know the CAT exam syllabus. The CAT exam syllabus consists of 3 sections: VARC, DILR, and QA. The below table gives an overview of the CAT syllabus and the candidates may find it beneficial for their preparation. Month-wise Preparation strategy for CAT Exam

A month-wise study plan is essential for the candidates who are appearing for the upcoming CAT exam. It gives them a rough idea of what they must cover in a particular month. During these months, the candidates should be focused on the syllabus and their accuracy so that they can develop speed and become familiar with question patterns and shortcuts.

5 Month Study Plan

Details

Month 1: Start Preparation

They must analyze their position first to start their CAT preparation. They must identify their weakness and strengths. They can make their study plan for month 1 in the following way.

  • Start with the basic concepts of LR topics, including clock and calendar, arrangements, and analogies.
  • Go through with basic arithmetic skills, required to solve number systems, Divisibility rules, geometry, mensuration, and probability. 

Month 2: Continue with QA, DILR, and VARC

In the second month of their preparation, the candidates must prepare on the following basis

  • Continue with QA topics, like Percentage, profit and loss, time and work, and set theory
  • Study different VA topics (Idioms, synonyms and antonyms, phrases, and reading comprehension)
  • Focus on logical reasoning chapters, including direction problems and syllogism

Month 3: Complete QA

They can continue their third-month preparation in the following way:

  • Complete QA chapters (interests, series and sequences, logarithms, inequalities, functions, equations, and P&C
  • Make a detailed study of VR topics (English grammars, solving cubes and dices)
  • Go through LR chapters, including blood relations and quantitative reasoning months

Month 4: Complete DILR

They must complete LR in month 4

  • Study LR chapters (coding and decoding, puzzles)
  • Focus on VR chapters including fill in the blanks, prepositions, para jumbles, Critical reasoning. Sentence correction, logical reductions  month
  • DI chapters such as Tables, pie charts, bar graphs, line charts, data sufficiency, and caselets

Month 5: Start Revision and Give Mock Test

In the 5th month, the candidates must be focused on the following things.

  • Start Revisions for all the chapters. It will help them to know whether they have missed chapters or not.
  • Solve CAT previous years’ question paper. It will help to understand the question type that the candidates will face in the CAT exam.
  • Memorise important formulas of math.
  • Give mock tests regularly to analyze the performance of the test.
