Are 12th Marks Important for GATE? No. As eligibility, your 12th and 10th percentages do not matter in the GATE examination. You can appear and write GATE irrespective of the percentages you have obtained in class 10th, 12th or your undergraduate examination. B.Tech percentage matters a lot as in various examinations and PSUs, a minimum of 50 % to 60 % eligibility is added as a requirement to appear for the examination.

For entry into various major programs like M.tech courses, the cut-offs by IITs for B.E/B.Tech is not kept very high. Are 12th Marks important for GATE and IIT Placements? It depends on company guidelines that it gives preference to the 12th percentage or not. Mostly many companies will set limitations based on B.Tech and M.Tech percentage obtained (which is around 7 C.G.P.A.) for cut-off. But few companies like Tata motors, H.A.L. and Hinduja group etc., will also ask for the 10th and 12th percentage for initial screening. Still, these companies reduce the cut-off as our 12th marks do not majorly affect our company performance.
