The following is a list of some significant uses for this ionic salt. Due to its high nitrogen content (34%) and importance in many fertilizers, NH4NO3 is a significant ingredient. This substance has the additional benefit of not losing its nitrogen to the atmosphere like urea does. One of the most often used industrial explosives is ANFO, which is created when it is combined with fuel oil. Thus, N2O and H2O is formed on the thermal decomposition of Ammonium Nitrate.
