What is GATE: All About GATE Exam

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an exam conducted in India for admission in the Master’s program all over India and is conducted by 7 IITs and IISC Bangalore. GATE exam scores can be used to get admission in the IITs and other NITs for Post Graduate programs.

Indian Institute of Sciences Bangalore will be conducting the GATE 2024 exam in the initial weeks of February. GATE is a Computer Based Exam. It is one of the most prestigious exams in India for Graduates. GATE score is valid for three years for admission in the Post Graduate programs across India.

What is GATE?

GATE is a computer-based test conducted by 7 IITs and IISC Bangalore every year in the month of February. The GATE-qualified students can not only take admitted to reputed institutes for Post Graduate programs but can also enroll themselves in the recruitment process of varied PSUs in India. The GATE scorecard will be useful for the three years of the exam, and it is necessary for the PSU recruitment process.

Students can also be awarded various Fellowships programs in India. Various foreign countries also consider GATE marks for admission in their institute for admission in post-graduate programs. Students from the following countries can also sit in the GATE exam: Sri Lanka, Singapore, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, UAE, and Nepal.

GATE Exam Eligibility

Students who are in their final year or third year of college or completed graduation are eligible to sit in the GATE exam. Students in the final year of the Master’s degree program are eligible for the GATE exam. Also students in the final year or completed the 5-year integrated programs are eligible for the GATE exam.

There is no limit to the age and number of attempts for the students who are attempting GATE exams.

GATE Exam Syllabus

The GATE exam syllabus for all 29 disciplines is available on the official GATE website or GOAPS portal. Students can download their respective syllabi from the official website. There will be General Aptitude based questions in every discipline of the GATE exam.

GATE exam pattern

GATE Exam Pattern: The GATE exam will consist of 65 questions and will carry 100 marks. Students will be given 3 hours to complete the exam where MCQ, NAT, and MSQ-based questions will be asked.

GATE virtual calculators will be made available for students to do the calculations for the numerical part of the exam. General Aptitude will have 10 questions and the rest 55 questions from the respective subjects.

  • To sit in the GATE exam, students first need to register for the exam and pay the respective registration fee. After a few months, admit cards will be made available and in the month of February, the GATE exam will be conducted based on which not only admission for Masters programs will be granted in various colleges across India but also the recruitment in PSUs can be done.
