Participants are – Atul Anija, Strategic Analyst and Simran Sodi, Journalist
Context: India and China have begun a slight disengagement from the face of site 7 of Galwan Valley
Background –
- A few days back, in an incident, 20 Indian soldiers were martyred while 43 Chinese soldiers were either killed or injured.
- On 6th July, NSA Ajit Doval also talked to his Chinese counterpart, FM Wang Yi, to make china agree to begin the process of disengagement.
- The Indian side physically monitors the Chinese troops at all four friction points, including the PP-14 (Galwan River Valley), PP-15, Hot Springs and Finger Area.
- Both countries will preserve peace and tranquillity and collaborate to avoid these type of events in the future.
Details-
- According to the behaviour shown by China, we need a proper verification regime in place to confirm whether the disengagement is actually taking place.
- The highest vigilance at the highest level of quality would be required in the days to come.
- These days, China is not in a suitable or comfortable position globally; UK, USA and many more great nations have opposed China for COVID-19 pandemic, Hong Kong Issue and South China Sea issue.
- In the Quad-plus mechanism, Australia, India, Japan, and the United States & non-Quad countries including New Zealand, South Korea, Vietnam, Brazil & Israel have already emerged in the fight against COVID-19; this also creates pressure on China.
- India has already given a strong message to China that India will not compromise; however, India lost Col. Babu and 20 other soldiers during the escalation.
- PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Ladakh is a strategic move; the visit is actually a strike which has caught the Chinese by surprise. Also, PM Modi’s message that the age of expansionism is over is clear.
