Why is AAI ATC Voice Test Conducted?

The work of a typical Air Traffic Controller is instructing pilots through clear speech and fluent language without any disturbance for safer sky movement, preventing collisions, expediting traffic, and optimizing airspace.

The voice Test simply evaluates whether the candidate is able to speak English fluently without any stutter or stammer. Here, voice clarity is more important than being Online Classroom Program fluent in the English language or having a vast vocabulary. It is enough if the candidate can manage to thread basic English sentences in a conversation because the rest will help you improve further during your initial training as an ATC, once you get selected.

Process for AAT ATC 2022 Voice Test

In this test, the students are called one by one in a room. There are 4 to 5 people sitting around a table together and on another side, one person is sitting with equipment who is taking Voice Test.

First, all the documents are checked. Then the group of people will ask for some basic information about the candidate like Name, College, etc. just similar to the introduction. After this, you will be sent for Voice Test.

The procedure for the Voice Test is very simple and straightforward and starts when they hand over a sheet of the printed paper to the candidate that contains nothing but the transcript of a sample “Pilot-ATC Conversation” that usually takes place over the radio frequency channels. Then the candidate has to read about a paragraph from it, the number of lines the candidate is required to read depends on them but mostly 4-5 lines are enough. As discussed above the aim of this exercise is only to check that the candidate does not suffer from any stuttering or stammering, and the flow of sentences in his/her speech is without any undesired pauses and his/her voice pitch and loudness, the word pronunciation and all is clear enough to be understood without any extra effort.

Note:

  • Screening Exam marks are the only factor that will take your name/roll no. into the final merit list.
  • Voice test is of qualifying nature only and shares no weightage for final merit for selection.

Important Information for AAI ATC DV and Voice Test

Other than the above tests that are mentioned for the AAI ATC exam, there is one more test that you can say is to check the hearing ability and concentration of the candidate.

In this test, the candidate is allowed to sit in a silent room with a computer with headphones and a story of dialogues (nothing on screen) is started. The candidate has to hear it carefully till the end. When it is over, the candidate is given a set of MCQs related to the story that has to be answered remembering the whole story.
