It is given that
Radius of curvature C = 3 m
Distance of object (u) = – 5 m (always negative)
We know that
Focal length = 3/2 = 1.5 m
Using the mirror formula
1/v + 1/u = 1/f
Substituting the values
1/v – ⅕ = 1/1.5
So we get
v = 1.15 m
Let us find the magnification
m = – v/u
Substituting the values
m = -1.15/-5
m = 0.23
The image will be formed on the opposite side of the object, which will be erect and virtual and appears small when placed beyond C.
So the image is erect, diminished, and virtual.
Therefore, the image is virtual, diminished, and erect.
Summary:
A convex mirror used as a rearview mirror on an automobile has a radius of curvature of 3.00 m. If a bus is located at 5.00 m from this mirror, find the position, nature, and size of the image.
A convex mirror used as a rearview mirror on an automobile has a radius of curvature of 3.00 m. The image is virtual, diminished, and erect if a bus is located at 5.00 m from this mirror.
