1. Optical device

2. Accurately calibrated scale

3. Limit guages

4. Comparison with standard such as slip guages

An electronic circuit, which compares the two inputs that are applied to it and produces an output is called comparator. It falls under non-linear applications of ICs. Its output helps in determining the greater or lesser inputs.

Answer: Comparison with standards such as slip guages

Camparators are used in the devices that measure and digitize analog signals, such as successive-approximation ADCs and relaxation oscillators. They are used for checking whether an input has reached a predetermined value. It comprises specialized high-gain differential amplifiers.

Types of Comparator

There are two types of comparators namely Inverting Comparator and Non-Inverting Comparator.

Inverting Comparator: It is an op-amp based comparator for which a reference voltage is applied to its non-inverting terminal and the input voltage is applied to its inverting terminal. Its operation is straightforward. It produces output based on the values of its input voltage and the reference voltage.

Non-Inverting Comparator: It is an op-amp-based comparator in which the reference voltage is applied to its inverting terminal. In this, the voltage is applied to its inverting terminal and the input voltage is applied to its non-inverting terminal.

Summary:

A comparator for its working depends on

Out of the given option, the correct answer is ‘Comparison with standard such as slip guages’.
